Fitness and fundraising: Thousands of people run, dance and jog to the finish line party at Run or Dye at Penshurst Place, in aid of Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity

For the fifth year in a row the sun shone on Penshurst Place, Kent on Sunday (30th June) as thousands of 5k and 3.5k runners took to the vibrant run routes of Run or Dye. Taking in dye and foam zones along their run, participants ran, danced and jogged their way to the finish line, where a festival village and live bands awaited, before the colour throwing game ‘Tie Dye the Sky’ saw an eruption of colour burst over the festival.

Taking place at Penshurst Place, participants were showered with safe, eco-friendly, plant-based cornstarch dye in a rainbow of colours at every kilometre. After they crossed the finish line, runners and their supporters celebrated their achievement with the world’s most colourful party, with celebrations inspired by the ancient Hindu festival of Holi. With a distance to suit all ages and abilities, Run or Dye aims to encourage as many families as possible to get fit together and put the fun into fundraising.

Runners of all ages and abilities took to the 5k, 3.5k and 1k run routes to fundraise for Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity, reaching £24,000 and counting by Sunday 30th June. After four years of the charity partnership, Run or Dye is on track to reach £100,000 fundraised for the  Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity Kiss it Better appeal, which funds pioneering paediatric cancer research at Great Ormond Street Hospital. This looks into the causes, diagnosis and treatment of childhood cancer to make sure that as many children as possible are benefiting from the latest research and clinical trials.

Carmel Allen, who founded the Kiss It Better Appeal for Great Ormond Street Hospital after the hospital treated her daughter Josephine, attended the event and took part in the 5k run. Carmel commented, “Run or Dye at Penshurst Place is always blessed with wonderful weather! For the fifth year running over 4000 people came together to support one another and Kiss it Better for Great Ormond Street Hospital. It’s a wonderful experience that really puts the fun into fundraising. We can’t wait for next year now!”

Run or Dye will return to Penshurst Place on 19th October 2019 for its first ever night run, Run or Dye GLOW. The brand new laser-lit night run and after-party will be lighting the night sky on a stunning run route through the grounds of Penshurst Place on Saturday 19th October. The 5k and 3.5k run will kick-off with a Start Line Disco, and take in nine GLOW, Foam and Colour zones, including ‘Time Tunnel’ and ‘Equalizer Zone’ as participants run, jog and dance their way to the finish line under moonlight.
